The Adventures of Tintin 2011
I haven't read the comics so I can't speak to that level of knowledge, but I found myself enjoying the film much more than I expected. The CG was impressive (oddly absent of the uncanny valley issues that plagued The Polar Express, perhaps due to the cartoonish faces on realistic bodies), and the action sequences were rather good.
At the same time, some parts were a bit flaky for me. Tintin's interest in the Unicorn model lacked motivation—save for perhaps…

The Nightmare Before Christmas 1993
I have a lot of childhood love for this film, which deemed me weird among my peers, because it was seen as a darker children's film. It's not the best film, but at the time it was magical, and I still watch it almost every October.

You cannot wipe the smile off of my face when watching this movie. Unbridled fun.

Melancholia 2011
A haunting film that meditates on depression and paranoia with a science fiction backdrop. Kirsten Dunst gives a riveting performance. One of my favorite films of the year.
