Channelling the coming-of-age cool and heart of films like 'Grease' and 'American Graffiti', Greg Mottola's 2009 comedy-drama is a tender, thoughtful and hilarious tale of young love and disappointment. Eisenberg and Stewart give fantastic performances, and make their characters both likeable and realistic. Stewart is the best I've ever seen her, and Eisenberg, for once, doesn't come off as a bit of a dickhead. Their relationship feels real, and includes the embarrassment, confusion and misunderstanding that it should entail. The final third falls apart a bit, and it's a bit hard to grasp everyone's motivations, but it's sweet and sensible without becoming clichéd.
The supporting cast, made of largely unknown performers are fantastic, especially Martin Starr. They all have their own unique traits and characteristics, and make the whole this feel fantastically real. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are both wonderful as the two owners of the eponymous theme park, being both terrifically enthusiastic and down to earth about the amazingly dodgy business they run.
