This was always going to happen. No matter how much went into making this film it was never going to match up to its predecessor, which is easily the best and most iconic comedy of the 21st century.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is full of the same sort of zany humour that was such a welcome surprise in the original and is combined with a heavier satirical plot revolving around the changing quality of TV news. This should be a guaranteed success, but instead it never quite reaches its potential. The jokes still come thick and fast, but somehow feel slightly forced, and rarely cause the same amount of laughter as before.
Still, there is a lot of fun to be had. New characters, especially Kristen Wiig as Brick's equally challenged love interest, provide a number of hilarious scenes and returning characters are still as funny as ever (Champ's fried-chicken business is a personal highlight), but some scenarios feel like they appear for the jokes sake, which is occasionally jarring.
Maybe, like a good scotch, it will improve with age, but as it stands Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is a very funny, but ultimately slightly disappointing return to the world of Ron Burgundy
