The Master 2012
Even a day later I think this film hasn't fully sunken in. Paul Thomas Anderson specialises in big films, and this is definitely a big film. The pacing is well thought out and the intensity at times feels like it's going through the roof as the lead characters of Freddie and Lancaster repeatedly clash and reconcile as they both struggle with their own and each other's problems.
I really loved the style of this film. Everything from the costume design… -
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou 2004
Quirky, stylish and beautiful. I felt it took a while to get going, but when it did it was worth the wait. The whole ensemble of characters weren't all as well written as those of The Royal Tenenbaums, but this was a far more 'cool' film where the great acting is mainly needed from Murray and the rest is down to sleek composition and a wonderful soundtrack of Bowie songs in Portuguese. As I say, a cool film

Hanna 2011
Very stylistic and a great performance by Ronan but this film never really feels gripping. The plot is very run of the mill so there's nothing new to engage the viewer except for some very thought out action sequences and as mentioned before, Ronan's solid acting.
Joe Wright has described some of his shots in the past as 'showing off' though they tended to feel in context and weren't there for the sake of it, though Hanna is full if… -
21 Jump Street 2012
Funnier than I expected. Reminiscent of the feel of Superbad as an observation on American teen high school culture while also having some great action set pieces too.
Tatum and Hill work well off of each other creating some good laughs throughout. One of the better daft American comedies of the past few years -
Stranger Than Fiction 2006
a whimsical and easy watch with Will Ferrell much more down to earth in comparison to his usual roles. a good film that is enjoyable while at the same time not really doing enough to be stand out.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
I had really high hopes but this film left me feeling quite disappointed as Nolan went against all the good things he'd created in his first 2 Batman films. There are many too many plot points which are left unexplained and Batman's behaviour throughout is very un-Batman-like. This film falls too easily into the cliche of the blockbusters that Batman Begins distanced itself from and The Dark Knight raised the bar for. Too many of the twists were predictable and…

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest 2010
Disappointing end to what seemed like it would be a great trilogy. After what was a great detective film then a debatable follow up with occasional ridiculous aspects, it all comes to a conclusion with a very dull court case.
The thing that made The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo great was how it constantly had you guessing and throwing up new plot twists all the time but all this is out the window with this film which gives virtually… -
The Girl Who Played with Fire 2010
Not as good as the first installment of the Millienium trilogy as it seems to go off course quite a bit and some of the explanation behind Lisbeth's back story feels quite forced as well as nowhere near enough Blomkvist. The first film set the bar and while this is a good film nonetheless, it doesn't reach such heights

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2009
Good film that while maybe felt raw at times though was gripping throughout. A grim, dark film which covers big topics regarding gender, race and religion comfortably. Fantastic performances from Rapace and Nyqvist

Blade Runner 1982
I thought I was going to love this film as from what i'd read it sounded like something I would but I came away from it a bit disappointed. It has some great moments but they're surrounded by a masses of mediocrity in both the plot and the acting.
I suppose it's a good watch but not a classic -
Wayne's World 1992
ridiculous but fun

The Arbor 2010
An interesting concept. Sections of The Arbor play acted out in the middle of the estate it was set it while actors lipsync with real interviews about Andrea Dunbar, her family and her life.
It starts off well enough and it's pretty engaging but unfortunately it's needlessly drawn out and a lot of the information feels unnecessary and so the pacing of the film suffers. As soon as the film moves from Andrea's story to her daughter's, I felt my…
