Transformers: Dark of the Moon 2011

    ½ Watched 09 Jun, 2012

    Extremely loud and incredibly dumb.
This film continues in the same vein as the previous Michael Bay Transformers films: bad plot, poor voice acting, cheesy jokes and designs.
While films like The Avengers have got the balance between action, plot and comedy, this is very disproportionate with far too much emphasis on just being either silly or full of explosions. While watching this I find it hard to believe Michael Bay is not just a child with a short attention span. It's also disheartening to see good actors in this like John Malkovich and Frances McDormand reduced to playing poor characters in a bad script

    Young Adult 2011

Considering this is the same writing/directing duo that made Juno, this is a pretty big disappointment. Everything about it is predictable.
While Juno was full of youthful charm, Young Adult feels tired and worn out like it's character Mavis. The film shows her downward spiral as she fixates more and more on her youth though instead of being a liberating experience, it comes across more cringey and bordering on annoying.
The premise has potential for a lasting message but despite…

a whimsical and easy watch with Will Ferrell much more down to earth in comparison to his usual roles. a good film that is enjoyable while at the same time not really doing enough to be stand out.

Good film that while maybe felt raw at times though was gripping throughout. A grim, dark film which covers big topics regarding gender, race and religion comfortably. Fantastic performances from Rapace and Nyqvist

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The main core of Another Earth is a story done many times before, person involves themselves in the life of someone they've hurt to try make them feel better because of guilt. In Another Earth however, core is loomed over, conceptually and literally, by a replica Earth.
Sci fi fans may be disappointed by this film after the way it was advertised as it's mostly a drama film against the backdrop of a sci fi concept that isn't remotely close…

    ★★★½ Watched 23 Jun, 2012

This is a film i'd been meaning to watch for a while as it's a quirky premise and i tend to have faith in Damon and Johansson.
It's odd in the sense that it's incredibly predictable and some moments are a bit cheesy but overall it's still entertaining and it's not a bad movie.
One note to make is that most of the cheesy moments seem to be at points where an epic song from Jonsi or his band Sigur…

A quirky low budget drama with heart.
There's nothing flashy about this film, it's just a simple charming piece about characters overcoming their individual problems that's very well-written and well acted. There are some cuts in this film that aren't quite right, but they're never enough to disrupt the flow as the focus is more on the characters.
As i say, the acting is great from the leads such as Peter Dinklage, Bobby Cannavale and Patricia Clarkson, right through to…

I really wanted to like this film. I really did. A film graduate returning home and figuring out what to do with her life is a good enough premise, but all in all this film is just annoying.

It’s written and directed by and also starring Lena Dunham as well as her family playing her family and her home is shot in her actual Tribeca loft home. All of this starts to feel a bit autobiographical, which given the context…

  • The Girl Who Played with Fire

The Girl Who Played with Fire 2009

    ★★★½ Watched 22 Jul, 2012

Not as good as the first installment of the Millienium trilogy as it seems to go off course quite a bit and some of the explanation behind Lisbeth's back story feels quite forced as well as nowhere near enough Blomkvist. The first film set the bar and while this is a good film nonetheless, it doesn't reach such heights

Definitely the kind of film that divides film audiences. Realism to a point which some may consider slow while others finely paced. I find myself in the latter category.
Wendy and Lucy is almost like the anti-road trip movie, not showing the fun, care-free journey seen in many films but instead the bitter reality that travelling through many states on limited money would be.
As well as it's pacing being a major asset, so is the performance of Michelle Williams…

Disappointing end to what seemed like it would be a great trilogy. After what was a great detective film then a debatable follow up with occasional ridiculous aspects, it all comes to a conclusion with a very dull court case.
The thing that made The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo great was how it constantly had you guessing and throwing up new plot twists all the time but all this is out the window with this film which gives virtually…
