Jacob Tender’s review:
This Studio Ghibli adaptation of the timeless classic The Little Mermaid at first failed to compare to other Miyazaki masterpieces, after re-watching, however, I find Ponyo has just about as much charm and magic as a childhood favorite of mine, My Neighbor Totoro.
The voice actors chosen for the English dub are superb. Noah Cyrus and Frankie Jonas had their chance to shine not only in the acting portion of the film, but on the soundtrack as well. Creating two versions of the Ponyo Theme.
Ponyo is an instant classic that I cannot wait to show to children of my own someday. Studio Ghibli is truly the last animation studio to convey quality lessons in a magical and tasteful way.
