Such a fucking masterpiece.

  • Pacino on the phone sweating is one of the greatest acting moments in cinema history. It's unreal. Or, I mean SO real that it's unreal.

  • The movie hasn't aged a day

  • It's just perfect. Every last detail.

  • Where would you rank it in Lumet's filmography?

  • His best, which is saying something considering how good he is (very close second and third to Network and 12 Angry Men).

This may actually be my favorite movie of the 1970s. I do think it deserved to win Best Picture/Actor that year (Not to disparage Cuckoo's Nest, which is a movie I adore, I just adore Dog Day mre). And it certainly deserved to win Best Supporting Actor (I haven't seen the Sunshine Boys, but Chris Sarandon is just so amazing in this, there's no way George Burns was better).

  • Agreed, his best for me as well. I still rank The Deer Hunter and Taxi Driver above it as far as the 70's go but perhaps it's time to do some rearranging on the old top list.
