Super film noir with Robert Mitchum telling the first part of the story to his current girlfriend, who lives in the same small town where he's relocated. In his former life, he was a private detective who worked often for his "friend" Kirk Douglas. The big case he worked on was finding the girlfriend of Douglas who ran out on him. She comes in the form of the stunningly beautiful Jane Greer. Mitchum meets her and falls for her and she for him. This of course causes complications as he's supposed to return her to Douglas. The second half of the movie happens after he drops his new gal off and tells her he'll be back.
There are twists and turns that would be unfair to reveal to those who haven't seen it. Just know that it's totally worth your time and is NOT a feel-good movie if you don't know what film noir is. No happy endings here. But watch it anyway. It's a classic!
