List by David Merryweather
"Space is boring as hell" - Movies about 'mundane' space travel.
Movies that, at least initially, attempt to deglamorise outer space, whether it's stir crazy space-truckers on interstellar flights, or just people quietly manning a space-station or moon base. Even the stars and the infinite vastness of space have just become a part of their workaday routine. Yawn.
So, whenever you see a bored astronaut - scream (it's okay, it's space - no-one will hear you).
Alternative list title: Science Fiction Films of the 1970s.
Great list. Can't wait to see OUTLAND on Blu-ray this summer. How about Stuart Gordon's SPACE TRUCKERS ? Roland Emmerich's crapfest MOON 44 might apply too. :)
Haven't seen Space Truckers, and haven't even heard of Moon 44, but I'll take your word for it. They're in.
Sorry to "class" up your list ;)
I might give Moon 44 a re-watch someday. It has a decent genre actor cast, which I'm sure I did not appreciate before when I saw this 20 years ago. I still don't like Michael Pare though.
I think there are more Eastern European or Russian films that could be added to this list but I don't think I've seen any of them. Ikarie XB-1 comes to mind.
Screamers is another one that had something to do with space mining but I think it was more of an action film.
Good list - Pandorum wouldn't look bad on it however
Fireball X-L5 and Pandorum are go.
