Letterboxd — Your life in film

Tarantino never ceases to impress. Django Unchained was by far one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Superb acting, classic Tarantino writing, and darkly humorous, I'll definitely be watching this one again.

Silver Linings Playbook was an excellently acted, heartwarming film that appeals to everyone looking for the silver linings in their lives. I loved the positive message this film portrayed while also dealing with some very troubling, uncomfortable issues.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by how entertaining this film was. I mean, yeah, the baby and dog-punching was a bit crude but I thought both Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis stayed true to their comedic personas. Overall I thought it was a decent satire of the American political system albeit the ending was a bit cheesy and predictable.

Not the ending the trilogy deserves, but enjoyable enough as a casual comic book action movie. Between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, there was definite continuity in terms of story line and recurring themes, and what I think this film lacks is the ability to adequately tie everything together. To me, Rises just feels too disparate from its predecessors to really serve as a good conclusion to such a successful franchise. Still, because it's Batman and an intense action film in its own right, I enjoyed it.

Despite the outlandish plot, subpar CGI and absolute ridiculous action sequences that ensue throughout, I guiltfully kind of liked this movie, if for nothing other than its absolute ridiculousness. I shamefully admit I would watch this again.

I've yet to really form a solid opinion on this film, but what I've determined so far is this. Visually stunning, the special effects were impressive as were the sweeping landscape shots. The acting and story was less than desirable, though Michael Fassbender's performance as the android David was captivating. There was enough suspense and gore to be worthy of an Alien prequel, although I don't know if Prometheus is worthy of a second watch.

I don't even want to take the time to properly review this film, since that would be too much time and energy wasted on this farce. Poorly acted, incomprehensible chain of events that tries to pass as a plot, and Kristen Stewart convinces us yet again that she is a terrible actress.

Sometimes you just can't help but watch a train wreck in progress.

Not your standard espionage film, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is constructed upon dialog and building atmospheric tension rather than explosions and cheap stunts. I would definitely describe it as a thinking man's spy thriller, as it absolutely captures the bleakness and paranoia of the Cold War as well as all of the double lives and double crossings we've come to love about spy films.

"The Rum Diary" left me feeling unfulfilled and confused. Johnny Depp's performance was decent enough and it had a few comical moments, but I struggle to find the point of this film.

Much like the title, I am 50/50 on whether or not I liked this film. On one hand Joseph Gordon-Levitt shows tremendous potential in his acting abilities and there is no doubt that I appreciate the personal struggle his character portrayed. On the other hand, there were times when I felt somewhat apathetic to the events unfolding in the story. I didn't quite have the emotional connection I think the director had intended, whether by my own fault or at the overall development of the story. I'll have to think about this for a bit and come back to this one.

Attempts to be heart-warming and sympathetic, but instead is mind-numbingly stupid and pointless.
