Dolev Amitai’s review published on Letterboxd:
Adventures in Babysitting is the sillier, kids version of Scorsese's terrific black comedy After Hours.
This is the template for the recent and pretty bad comedy "The Sitter".
Basically, the story is about a babysitter, who because of a rather stupid friend who for some reason "ran away from home" to the bus station, needs to go and pick up her friend.
She takes the children she is babysitting (for some reason, a freshman and his best friend seem uncapable of caring for his little sister) along for the ride.
And then the troubles begin.
If you have seen those two other films (After Hours and The Sitter), you will know how the plot goes.
One event leads to another event, which has more people chase after our group.
Of course, in their journey some characters will develop, but nothing serious.
I have to say this is a pretty enjoyable film. While it is neither original or terrific, it does its best with what its got.
I do believe all the credit should go to Elisabeth Shue. She is great in her role. While its not much as a character, she brings her charm to this film and elevates it quite a lot.
I think a better sense of humor might have made this film a whole lot better, but it was amusing at parts. And the music was also pretty smooth.
There are really great parts in the film, with the blues club being the stand point, but then there are parts that have nothing in them, like the train or adults party scene.
Funny at parts, but overall lacking this final punch to elevate it beyond average.
