I always feel like I need to justify my love for The Departed by saying that it is my favourite Scorsese, but not his best. The problem with me saying that is it makes me forget how awesome it actually is. That is why every few months I need to rewatch it to remind myself. Still awesome.
I noticed on this rewatch that Hanna seems to have a lot of similarities to Nicholas Winding Refn's Drive. Both films are filled with dark and gritty noir-like themes, both have a fantastic electronic musical score, both are violent, and both take the viewer in a very different direction than expected.
