The film was immensely enjoyable, considering it's been less then a decade since the film franchise has started. I would love to have been with someone who wasn't aware that this was a reboot of the series just to see their reaction to the changes in the spider-man lore.
The changes in lore were not off-putting what so ever, in fact the were more then welcome. The movie was a bit more dark, a bit more edgy then the Sam Raimi series. I take nothing from the Raimi renditions, but this one just seemed to work better in tone. Tobey Maguire is a decent enough actor, but I never bought him as a super-hero. When the mask went on, Tobey was gone, in this however? The mask slides on and you can still see Peter Parker, you can still see the nuances that Andrew Garfield put into the character.
The fact that Peter actually had witty, fun banter with the Lizard made this movie all that more amazing. The first few movies felt so stiff, this felt more Ultimate, more fun. While the film does have it's faults (seriously, would Peter be dumb enough to leave his camera in the sewer with 'property of peter parker' written on the back?) it's still one of the most fun ride's you'll have this summer.
