  • Birdman 2014

    ★★★½ Watched 17 Jan, 2015

A fascinating film from a director with a unique style of storytelling. Not as entirely satisfying as hoped, but unforgettable and thought provoking questioning relationships, desires, goals, careers, humanity and, even, reality itself. Often dreamlike and haunting, occasionally irritating and aggravating, the film demands its audience to pay attention, waves details in their faces and obscures the truth with moments of brilliant imagination. And, yeah, Michael Keaton is astonishing.

  • The Remaining 2014

    ★★½ Watched 24 Jan, 2015

For horror fans, once you get past some of the preachier "faith-based" moments, The Remaining has plenty to offer. The film handles the apocalyptic Rapture concept in an entertaining and personal way by focusing on a small group of friends who were attending a wedding at the time. Creepy and thrilling from time to time, the movie manages to draw the audience into the relationships of the main characters with ease in a satisfying way. The production feels a little made for TV in its approach but doesn't shy away from the death and destruction that surrounds the subject matter. Not too shabby.

It is, without a doubt, the best film of the year. Incredible, exhilarating and emotional, the film never lets its audience go. Amazing work from Cauron and Bullock.

  • Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones 2014

    ★★★½ Watched 02 Jan, 2014 3

The film is more than just a Paranormal Activity spin off, it not only buries itself deep within the franchise's mythos, it injects the series with a sense of humor and a boost of fun and horror. The leads are engaging providing the film with an entertaining cast for a change. Miles above the previous entry and on par with the best the Paranormal films have had to offer thus far, The Marked Ones is a tiny gem of a film. Goofy, scary, wonderful fun. A great start to 2014.
