What a ride. The best Mad Max movie to date. I just saw the original Mad Max and Road Warrior a few months ago, it's been awhile since I've seen Thunderdome but enjoyed it when I was younger. The Road Warrior was my favorite up until seeing this one.
You don't need to have seen any of the previous films to enjoy this masterpiece. I loved the trailers, but was worried that the film would only be action. While the action is at the forefront I like the world building, even if it is excessive and completely over the top.
Funny on how I've seen a few reviews compare this to Before Sunrise... which humors to me because the more apt comparison is of course Before Sunset.
Either way it isn't nearly as good as either one.
It had a few nice moments but the score got on my nerves, way too loud and way too obvious.
Words cannot explain how much I loathe this 'movie' (I use the term loosely as not to insult any other movies) Very few films have had this kind of reaction on me, I very rarely give anything below 2 1/2 star rating as I can usually find something I enjoyed about almost any film. I also enjoy action movies, which is why I rented it in the first place. So I'm not a hater of this type of film, just…
I re-watched this with my youngest. She is 10, sure it's rated R but only because of the language, and she hears worse everyday at school. (Not to mention from her mother, but I won't go there) To no surprise, she really liked it, she was excited when she recognized Hans as being Snape. I had to explain a few 80's references to her, but overall it still stands up as one of the best action films of all time.
