As far as Saw movies go, this one's pretty good. Opening with a thoroughly stomach churning autopsy, made even more unsettling by how dispassionate it is.
Nothing mind-blowing, but you didn't watch Saw to have your mind blown did you? No. You watched for the traps and some plot twists.
There are traps a plenty, most pretty gruesome. And the kind of twists you've come to expect from Saw.
If you like the other 3, you'll enjoy this one.
Damn fine cinema full of astoundingly good performances. Crowe is at his apex here. Who knew he could sing? It's something of a custom for the girl playing Eponine to steal the show and she grabs it and makes off with it here, every scene she's in being some of the best in recent memory.
Really, just a triumphant piece of film making here. Go see it. Bring some tissues.
Though I was disappointed. I kept waiting for Wolverine to pop his claws and starting shanking some fools. Never happened though.
