The film does a good job of storytelling, backed up by very strong performances by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Emma Stone. Personally, very impressed with the performance of Emma Stone, showing some range as not only a comedic actress but a serious dramatic actress as well.
This film isn't about to win any technical awards as the cinematography etc was very standard, but from a pure storytelling point of view did a great job. I was impressed by the restraint shown to not have inspirational music swelling throughout the entire film, only the last 30 minutes or so - far better than I expected.
I liked how they touched on the seriousness of racism in Mississippi instead of glossing over it with hope and inspiration.
Overall, we very good film that will appeal to a wide range of demographics - well done to the filmmakers.
