Captain America: The First Avenger 2011

Duncan Stripp’s review:
The story of the first avenger is an unexpected delight. Chris Evans is the weed who gets turned superhuman by a German scientist now working for the US army, who has to go up against the Red Skull, a man so evil that even Hitler has disowned him! The look of the film is fantastic, having an almost Raiders Of The Lost Ark vibe, and the cinematography, costumes and production design are far superior to any of the previous Marvel super hero films. Acting wise, Evans does his best with a rather bland character, but the supporting cast (Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell and Stanley Tucci) are a real delight, obviously relishing the chance to play it large in a big summer blockbuster. Joe Johnson's direction is equally up to the task, giving the whole thing an old school charm, sadly missing from the likes of Transformers (or even Harry Potter) Who'd have thought that the most fun super hero films of the summer would be this and Thor?
