Eight Diagram Pole Fighter 1984
To steal my tweet from the night I watched this:
While 8 DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER has a disappointing lack of diagrams, it makes up for it with plenty of poles and fighters.
And what fighters those are!
The final action set piece is a shockingly bloody pay off.
Moral: Don't step to Shaolin monks. Period. Or you may get de-fanged.

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
Dual Review on Cinapse: cinapse.co/2013/05/16/star-trek-into-darkness-dual-review-ed-and-david-argue-more/
I liked it a lot and have really never seen any of the original STAR TREK films beyond the 6th one.
David didn't like it as much.

Runaway Train 1985
I watched this as part of my Cannon Fodder column for AICN. Talkbackers were clamboring for this title and now I see why.
Original screenplay was written by... AKIRA KUROSAWA? You never really know what decisions the main characters will make, which is always exciting because Hollywood rarely has volatile characters anchor their films. Voight and Roberts were both nominated for their performances and this is just an all around gem of a forgotten action film. (Well, I don't know that it is forgotten, but I'd never even heard of it before starting up this column.)
