Ross Maclean’s review:
Astounding frenetic farce which combines slapstick, surrealism and social commentary in equal measure, each element as successfully as the others.
It absolutely fizzes with energy and the performances are riotously entertaining. The use of gypsy folk music throughout adds a layer of freewheeling anarchy to events and, considering the two hours plus running time, it never loses your interest.
Plenty of superlatives there, sure, but I don't remember the last time I laughed so much at a film or felt so excited by the energy it gave off. Must seek out more Kusturica.
