Captain America: The First Avenger 2011

Ross Maclean’s review:
The build up is great, the effects are great and the production design is astounding but it all falls away in the final act.
It was a bold move from Marvel to keep the WWII setting and they do a great job of rationalising the usefulness of a figurehead like Cap but the romantic subplot never feels truly explored and the climactic aerial tussle belies all that is good about the film's other action scenes - although a welcome nod towards Powell & Pressburger in its midst is a step in the right direction to addressing both these problems.
Watched this today. Would've written a review but this pretty much sums up my thoughts perfectly.
