The Bourne Identity 2002
Rewatched Aug 06, 2012
Ross Maclean’s review:
Things I'd forgotten: Just how obtrusive and out of place much of the music is. The CIA chatter stands out as being faintly rubbish and not altogether convincing. There's a frankly ridiculous dolphin noise during the coda which I'd never heard before.
That said, it functions well in the action genre stakes. The quiet little moments before Bourne's ingrained training kicks in and he unleashes his ass-kicking skills are superbly well handled and give the fight scenes that added bite - and the same goes for vehicular chases.
The film's biggest success lies in the chemistry between Damon and Potente though. It brings home the fact that this is as much as a character piece as a pan-European action jaunt.
