Excellent documentary with insights and theories about Kubrick's "The Shining". It will show you many things about the film you may have never noticed and then some. Some theories are way out there of course, but others may give you some new perspective or even confirm what you yourself may have been thinking.
One thing did bother me though and that was the awfully intrusive soundtrack. They should have just used the movie soundtrack...
Very highly recommended to any Kubrick fan.
It may never reach soaring heights like the Lord of the Rings did, but is most certainly a worthy addition to the Middle-Earth as seen by Peter Jackson. He took the story and expanded upon it like I hoped he would. Things that were only briefly mentioned in the original novel have been completely fleshed out and add more background to an otherwise pretty straightforward story. The splendid prologue is a fine example of that.
It is however not always…
Very beautiful film, not just in its visuals (which are stunning by the way) but in its story telling as well. Even though the plot is not a particularly difficult one, it'll still keep you drawn in till the ending credits.
I love how the story blends a children's adventure film with the "history" of film pioneer Georges Méliès (Ben Kingsley). If you do not know who Méliès is... well, let's put it this way: remember the song "Tonight tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins? It had a wonderful video-clip, you should look it up ;-)
