Sci Fi/Post-Apocalyptic Films: small on scale but big on ideas
Inspired by my recent watching of Monsters I though I'd gather all the sci-fi/post-apocolypitic films that are different from the epic world saving/regime changing hollywood fair and instead use the futuristic/alien environment as a prism through which to examine a wider idea or character. Small on scale (mostly) but big on ideas.
Suggests would be most welcome!
I've added both those suggestions, not seen Quiet Earth but sounds good. I love Attack the Block, a very British take on an alien invasion.
You need to check at A Boy and his Dog as well as Melancholia.
@Nate Thanks for the suggestion, I've added Melancholia as I've been meaning to watch that for a while now.
Very cool list. Primer, Moon, and Monsters were the first movies that came to my mind when I saw the title. Happy to see them already represented!
Would there be a place for The Book of Eli, a really interesting concept, which I can't go too far into without giving too much away. Certainly worth a watch even if it cannot make this list.
Ahh that one's been in the back of my mind as one to watch for a few years, am I right in thinking it's somewhat similar to The Road? (In it's basic premise at least?)
Basic premise it is very similar to The Road, a lone nomad travels across post-apocalyptic America is essentially the concept. Not an amazing film, but Gary Oldman is really incredible in his role.
What about I Am Legend?
Oh, and take a look at Immortel ad Vitam and eXistenZ, I think they should be on this list as well.
Thanks! I've added I Am Legend, I'll have to check out the other two suggestion.
