Letterboxd — Your life in film

A good time. The vignettes at the tail end of the film were the most wrenching 40 mins of film I've seen recently.

A lovely fantasy film from the early 80s, afore my birth that has some really delirious characters. The filmmaking technique involved to realise this fantasy world is most endearing because watching this film reminded me of how much digital imaging techniques have evolved. This movie had wonderful matte paintings that look like PAINTINGS and not the sharp photorealistice matte paintings we often see in films like LOTR and such. Other than that the story is simple and engaging. Not really a review this...

Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi was an enjoyable experience. A beautiful film with gorgeous production design, 3D that wasn't jarring, some effective scares involving a brilliant performance from Noomi Rapace as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw and on a bum note a somewhat teasing script. Actually a script that decides the questions it's asking are more important than sense in some aspects but I loved the movie. And bugger that Alien connection, didn't feel twas necessary.
