Turns out it was Jack Black.

The style, story, and language are horrorshow, as I was led to expect. But I found the pace slow and the dialogue on the nose - unlike Ludovico's cinema, it was actually quite easy to look away.

I was struck by the poor quality of female roles.

This film acts like it's a trippy comedy but isn't funny. I liked it for the characters and setting.
