Bill Cosby: Himself 1983 ★★★★

The wonderful thing about The Cos' conversational, laid back style of humor is that he makes you feel at home. Like you're sitting around the living room after dinner and listening to some funny anecdotes. And you really get that from this concert film, which is spare and to the point. It also runs a little long and feels long - with the shifting ambient lighting sometime...s achieving a kind of soothing effect. In any case, Cosby has always been one of the greats so, even if the pacing suffers when compared to more recent concert films, it's still an engaging and completely likable performance. (It has to be said that the bit where he talks in jest about his son "not living very long" has an unfortunate ting of darkness now.)
