Undisputed III: Redemption 2010 ★★★★

Rewatched Jul 10, 2012

A rollicking, meat & potatoes action picture that really captures the great feeling of those Van Damme tournament movies from the 90s; upping the ante with brutal ferocity and an actual attention to character details. It's even more fun than the predecessor - with campier characters, more (and better) fights and, dare I say it, a sense of scope. The chemistry between Scott Adkins and his co-star Mykel Shannon is actually very good. And it ends up feeling a bit like an MMA version of The Defiant Ones. But the movie is full of memorable and entertaining characters. In particular, Marko Zaror's wonderfully flamboyant villain. Isaac Florentine's raw approach to the action is very assured and the movie has a lot of impact as a result. Put all those ingredients together and you have a terrific and very satisfying entertainment package.
