Event Horizon draws from a large range of influences including Don't Look Now, Hellraiser, and, of course, The Shining. Paul W.S. Anderson shows his horror knowledgeably without Event Horizon feeling derivative. Unfortunately, it feels unintentionally goofy more often than hair raising. Of the few horror films that take place in space, at least Event Horizon is entertaining (much less entertaining than Alien) or entertaining in an ironic sense (much less ironically entertaining than Jason X). Still, one can find some fun in this amalgam of the haunted house and the final frontier.
