Fabian’s review:
A lovely piece which may have changed my mind on superhero movies. Apparently they can not only be good, they can be absolutely amazing and in a time when tosh like The Avengers is being made that is an achievement extraordinaire.
While The Amazing Spider-Man has its flaws (and one incredibly stupid scene involving cranes) it is rich with characters and emotional depth along with the really well-made and convincing action scenes which are thankfully only there to connect the scenes with dialogue.
Garfield and Stone (two actors I've had a keen eye on since I've first spotted them) deliver tremendous performances and have a charming chemistry on-screen that is far superior to that of Maguire/Dunst. Even the supporting characters are a massive improvement on the one-dimensional stereotypes of the old Spider-Man franchise (I could not believe how much of a good job they did with small characters like Flash).
Very pleasantly surprised and highly recommended
