Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
I enjoyed JJ Abrams' second actionified Star Trek movie, but the fact remains that most of the actually interesting questions and potential thoughtfulness were elided by ever-escalating action sequences and mostly shallow character moments.
Every second Cumberbatch was on screen was magic, and the most intense and riveting parts were whenever another character simply had a conversation with him. So why not do more of THAT, really have a battle of the wills, of the intellects, see who can mentally out-maneuver one another and who will be able to remain themselves and not become villains when faced with such an adversary (a concept that Kirk touches on in his final speech to Starfleet, but that was almost non-existant in the actual story), rather than spend so much time on a single centerpiece action sequence that got less interesting and felt like it had less stakes the longer it went on? I don't know.
Anyway, it was a decent way to spend a couple of hours, but that's about it.
