4-1/2 stars, eh? Ok, I'll watch it. I've been sitting on it for a while now. As much as I love older films, I started with the 30s and skipped over the 20s because, well, it seems so far back, and I always figured it would be more like homework, the film-history type. This reminds me that I also have to see Metropolis.
It's pretty amazing with Dreyer is able to do with a film mostly of close-ups - yet the camerawork is varied and interesting the whole time. And the close-ups of Falconetti are breathtaking - she gets so much across with just subtle movements of her eyes and mouth.
Metropolis is incredible, one of my all-time favorites. Make sure you see the restored edition that came out a couple of years ago. It's much better with the additional footage.
