For the umpteenth time in this often bleak and bankrupt century, the true greats of the past are dug up from their resplendent peace to be milked for "new" content. I don't mean to sound like a doomer; I'm usually pretty positive about new content, at least compared to many of my peers. But when it happens so often, and when it seems as if at least every other film that receives a wide release is a reboot, a remake,…

Wes Anderson's movies have always been special to me. From Bottle Rocket through to The Grand Budapest Hotel - the latter of which I would argue is his greatest - his movies have had immeasurable charm, wit, and beauty. His movies all have an underlying melancholic tone and inimitable dialogue that, like his visual style, is so distinctly his own, delivering poignant truths, character detail, and plot points with such a flourish that one hardly even registers the depth they…

    "You remind of a man."
    "What man?"
    "Man with the power."
    "What power?"
    "Power of hoodoo."
    "Hoodoo?"
    "You do."
    "Do what?"
    "Remind me of a man..."

I watched this film because of the quote above.
While it's certainly not one of the early greats, nor is it especially memorable, it's still rather entertaining. To be honest I've never been fond of Cary Grant and always found him to be very monotone, and in this film he was still monotone. But aside from that, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer is a clever, decent film.

Wes Anderson still has a perfect track record. This did not disappoint in the slightest. It exceeded all my expectations. Seriously. Wow.
    My gosh.
    WOW.
Dem aspect ratios, man. Dat lighting. Dat awesomeness.
    Dat quirkiness.
    Dat beauty.
The story is easily Wes Anderson's darkest, most violent, and probably the film with the most moving parts. Tons of characters with great development.…
