When I first saw this movie, I thought it was pretty bad. Well, I gave it another chance and it turns out it's REALLY bad.

This is not a great film. The plot's formulaic, the whole "high-school drama" thing going on between the two leads doesn't work, and Kate Bosworth looks massively uncomfortable the whole time.
And yet... I love this movie.
Maybe it's seeing Laurence Fishburne trying to be a bad-ass. Maybe I have a thing for heist movies. Or maybe it's my massive, throbbing man-crush on Kevin Spacey.
Who knows... in any case, I love this bizarre little film, warts and all, and no-one will convince me otherewise.

Pathetic. Kevin Spacey has two or three of his patented glorious asshole moments as a slimy teacher slash gambling con mentor, and the rest is a steaming pile of Blandy McBlandville with some horrendous techno BGM. "Winner, winner, chicken dinner!" must be THE lamest self-encouraging pep chant I've heard in a movie. It has to be. (33%)

Kevin Spacey makes the movie work
-
Passable, but formulaic in the extreme and as a result highly lampoonable and utterly, utterly predictable. To quote my brother: "I actually feel stupider for having watched this."
Incredibly cheap-looking digital photography too. It actually looked like a day-time soap opera in places.

Oh, look, still bad. Maybe if the entire cast (save Kevin Spacey) wasn't so boring this movie could be kind of okay.

Kevin Spacey just being Kevin Spacey.

Slight, but enjoyable enough fun. Kevin Spacey can play this kind of role in his sleep and unfortunately we learn very little about him, or indeed any of the characters, with the exception of Ben. Thoroughly predictable throughout, including the denouement, it is mildly diverting and offers little else.

A very fun film with good (but rare) action scenes and surprisingly, a worthwhile plot. It even has a few turns at the end. Based on a true story, it could have been really bad or really great, but they did a decent job on this film. Although looking back on it now, it has an incredibly big amount of flaws and some scenes and material that were not thought out very much, the film is very enjoyable. Kate Bosworth is also very awesome.
