3 Idiots
2009 Directed by Rajkumar Hirani
Synopsis
In the tradition of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” comes this refreshing comedy about a rebellious prankster with a crafty mind and a heart of gold. Rascal. Joker. Dreamer. Genius... You've never met a college student quite like "Rancho." From the moment he arrives at India's most prestigious university, Rancho's outlandish schemes turn the campus upside down—along with the lives of his two newfound best friends. Together, they make life miserable for "Virus," the school’s uptight and heartless dean. But when Rancho catches the eye of the dean's sexy daughter, Virus sets his sights on flunking out the "3 idiots" once and for all.

As a rule, I try to grade on my subjective experience of a movie, not on my (also subjective) perspective of a movie's objective quality. So no, this is not the masterpiece I typically reserve 5 stars for - you might have gathered as much from the poster. It is, however, the most impassioned treatment of a theme close to my heart - whether to follow passion or seek success - I've ever seen and it couldn't have entered my life at a better time, right when I'd found myself dangerously close to weighting the latter far more heavily than it warrants. I finished 3 Idiots with such…

I'd like to personally thank mohanbharathi srinivasan for recommending me this film. Well, actually a very good personal friend of mine recommended me this earlier, but I never got around to it and somehow forgot about it. Thankfully, mohanbharathi srinivasan helped push me back in the direction of this outstanding film.
It's as inspiring as it is heartfelt and just as funny. This is the kind of feel good film that will leave you with a smile on your face and some food for thought. Many of the actors turn in deep and charming performances. The characters are very likable and the characters that you don't like end up being entertaining. Aamir Khan as Rancho is definitely my favorite of…

This was my first Bollywood film and I enjoyed! I always been curious about it. The film was very funny it made me laugh in a lot of times and even the dancing numbers were very entertaining (I wasn't sure if I would like them but I actually did). It is also very emotional at times. It has an important message about friendship but it also talks about parents and sons problems, specially when it comes to career choices.
The film has almost three hours but you never get bored because you became more conected with the story, specially to know what happened with the main character.
If you never saw any Bollywood films I guess this one is a good start!

Even on a second watch, All Is Well!
I still love everything about it. Already one of my favorites.

The movie makes a satirical remark on how parents and teachers/schools in India are focused on teaching text-book stuff and encouraging students to obtain high paying jobs rather than letting students pursue their dreams. The movie weaves several small comic incidences and jokes of our day-to-day life in a brilliant way that puts the movie too natural to be true. A very feel good movie :)

The biggest hit in Bollywood EVER. Its a rare film that worked for pretty much everyone combining rib-tickling humor along with stirring emotions, popular songs and a strong bond of friendship.

I just saw this because I saw the rating in the imdb and normally this kind of higher 7s or 8s are either magnificent movies or crappy Oscar non-sense. As I only saw 3 bollywood movies in my life, I was expecting more of the same dancing and chanting scenarios with 1000’s of colors that end up giving you a big headache.
But I was very wrong, at almost 3 hours of running time, the movie that seems to start as a crappy version of the Hangover, ends up being a journey of discovery in a world that is unknown to us, Europeans and a lesson in life where I almost dropped a tear. Really good movie where you also laugh and does not have the crappy dancing and chanting by more than 5 min. Very worth seeing it! -

If I told you the title is 3 Idiots and that this is a Bollywood film, you probably would expect this to be a Dumb & Dumber or Porky's kind of movie. Not the case! This is a terrific film. Very sentimental, especially at the end, but also very heart-warming and surprising in parts. And endearing cast.
Highly recommended, especially if, like me you have not seen much from India.

What a great film! I put it on my Lovefilm list because it's one of the few films on the IMDb top 250 I haven't seen, but knew nothing about it except that it sounded like a comedy. I love it when going into a film blind turns up an absolute delight.
The three idiots of the title are three young engineering students. They are studying engineering for different reasons and with very different amounts of enthusiasm and as the film's story unfolds we find out how they have got where they are, and why. I became a little confused at times by the movement through time, but that didn't matter as the story sucked me in - these were people I believed in, however unlikely some of the turns of the plot.
This is a 2 hour 50minutes film I'd happily watch again now :-) -
A well-scripted and directed inspiring movie.
