7 Days in Havana
A young American boy is trying to break into the acting business, and goes to Cuba during a film festival.
So Benicio Del Toro, Gaspar Noe, Elia Suleiman, Julio Medem, Laurent Cantet, and a couple of other guys get together to make a collection of shorts.
The cast includes the manlet from the Hunger Games, Daniel Bruhl, and (I'm not fucking with you) Emir Kusturica playing a drunkard version of himself! I gotta say I expected a bit more. Most of the pieces are mediocre, unfortunately.
Keep in mind it was partially funded by the Cubans. Not much connects the pieces (though some actors appear twice), but I can say there's a general festive, musical theme, as well as the constant presence of automobiles.
El Yuma by Del Toro: 2/5
An American can't speak the language. Culture shock, money, sex…
Feels like 7 Days 'n' all.
Elia Sulaeman's part ... <3
Una película más hecha con la misma plantilla. Un proyecto que pudo haber sido más explotado y se queda muy plano. Ni modo...
7 Days, 7 Stories, 7 Directors.
Not sure how I feel with this one, some of the stories (days) worked, some didn't. Some characters appeared on different days, some characters we never saw again.
Each day explored themes, of love, loneliness, loss, friendship and happiness. It's beautifully filmed in places though I can't really recall the music. Except for the trumpet player in Tuesdays film, he was superb, and it was one of the better segments. One segement had no dialogue from the main character, all looks and even I was left to ponder what it was all about. Sometimes I just miss the point, just not clever enough to grasp what they are trying to show me!
Some bad, some ok, but none that are actually memorable. The closest being Gaspar Noe's addition. Utterly forgettable.
It's mostly pretty bland, but Trapero's segment is fun, and Suleiman's is rather delightful.
El Yuma | Benicio Del Toro | 2/5
Jam Session | Pablo Trapero | 3/5
La Tentación de Cecilia | Julio Médem | 1/5
Diary of a Beginner | Elia Suleiman | 4/5
Ritual | Gaspar Noé | 2/5
Dulce Amargo | Juan Carlos Tabío | 2/5
La Fuente | Laurent Cantet | 2/5
A mixed bag, and not a particularly flattering ode to Havana. Only 2 of the segments are interesting: La tentación de Cecilia by Julio Medem and Ritual by Gaspar Noé (of course!). The rest is instantly forgettable.
I sentieri meno noti al turismo di massa vengono percorsi da 7 Days in Havana. Purtroppo però ne viene fuori un film evanescente e spaesato.
Hard to rate as whole, cause its not really one movie, its a concatenation of short films which are directed by various directors, like del Toro and Gaspar Noe. Accidentally bought this from the German iTunes Store with only German audio, so now the the synchro switched between German and English- the German voice actors also dubbed the English parts which sounded like 7th graders and subtitles where also implemented, cause the movie is original in Spanish, fucking disaster. 7 directors, each got about 20 min to tell a story in Havana. Only watched this because of Noes part and he did not disappoint, his short was the only interesting and provocative one, although not a great one but a good short compared to the boring rest
Seven stories: three really good stories, one not so good and three wastes of time.
As every anthology, some shorts are better than others. The highlights are Jam Session, La Tentacion de Cecilia and Dulce Amargo.
Believe me, half a star is being generous.
7 días en La Habana (2012)
All of the shorts here have one good thing and a lot of atrocious ones. The one that had most of the good stuff was the Noé, while the one that had the most atrocious was probably the Benicio del Toro one. The Suleiman one is actually interesting in its structure, while the one by Pablo Trapero is two clicks away from being similar to one of the worst Chilean films ever made.
pick 3, or 4, or 10, I dont give a fuck anymore
