A solid film - Haneke-esque - that fails to build on it’s potential. It follows three separate stories, each of them rather vague but intriguing - an older man and his wife, a divorced couple, and a pretty sickening individual. An incredibly slow developing film that never quite delivers anything special. It sits in a constant state of going somewhere, but that somewhere never really arrives. The overarching themes seems to be the hidden secrets we all hold within, the question of why humans cause others pain and just a general glimpse into the ostensibly mundane lives of three different people. Eva Sørhaug is an exciting director. This is her 2nd feature long film, the first being the provocative and very disturbing Cold Lunch, a film most people hated. I thought it was very interesting and brave even though it was a bid too dark and defeatist for my taste.
And here she is again, ready to show us the dark side of the world. 90 Minutes is a much better film than Cold Lunch. Here she tells us as little as she can get away with.
