A Goofy Movie
1995 Directed by Kevin Lima
Synopsis
It's the story of a father who couldn't be closer...to driving his son crazy.
It's the last day of school, and Max wants to catch the eye of Roxanne, one of the more attractive girls in school. But how can you be cool when your dad's Goofy? Stage an impromptu concert at the final assembly, that's how! Or at least it sounded good until Principal Mazer found out. Goofy finds out about his son's antics (sort of), and decides a fishing trip, like his dad took him on, is the solution. Of course, he doesn't know that Max finally lands a date with Roxanne for a party thrown by the class valedictorian. Through the movie, Goofy tries to bring Max out of his shell, while Max resents being taken away, and lying to Roxanne about the trip (he tells her he & his dad will be appearing on TV at the PowerLine concert in LA). Will Max sink or swim? Will Goofy goof up his son's first shot at romance? Will Bigfoot step back? And what about those nuns?

Despite enjoying the film on its original release I have never felt compelled to re-watch A Goofy Movie...until now. The film follows the misadventures of Goofy and his son, Max, as they take a bonding road trip across America. The adolescent Max is going through familiar changes and is embarrassed by his very goofy father. It is unusual for an animated Disney film to deal with such a simple story, there is no real life or death peril, it is merely a straightforward coming-of-age tale.
The problem is that this particular coming-of-age story has dated badly in the intervening years. It is a film firmly rooted in the 1990s whether it be the cultural references or dated costumes. Whilst the…

One of my favorite movies! Love all the detail, love all the chacters (super unique) and love all the songs! They're fun and hold your attention unlike most kid's movies.

Short and sweetly endearing, "A Goofy Movie" is a straightforward and colorful, musical father-son flick. Its animation may never compete with Disney's A-listers, but the film is fun and energetic; plus, its nineties-tastic soundtrack is hummably infectious.

The very first movie I ever saw.

A typical disney movie. Glad that it wasn't too long. Did a nice job with the whole father-son thing. There are better disney movies, though.

Not quite in the same league with Disney classics like The Lion King or Aladdin, but it never fails to make me laugh and feel great when I watch it.

This movie defined my 5th-6th grade years. I think I watched it almost every day. I had a sudden urge of nostalgia and busted out our VHS copy the other day, and was not disappointed. I only rate this "3-and-a-half" out of reference to how many cups of sugar it takes to get to the moon. It's really a 5-star in my mind.
Also, Powerline still rocks my iTunes playlists.

Everybody loved goof troop. Goofy has been a staple to cartoon hijinks for more than 75 years, and now, with his son Max, he continues his zany misadventures as they go on a simple camping trip
What could possibly go wrong?

A nostalgic trip to see this film...been at least 15 yrs since I last saw it. It was fun to repeat lines I knew as a kid and recall some of the terrible songs. Still for all the cheese..."leaning tower of cheez-a"...it has a sweet father-son story at its core.
The catalyst for the father-son fishing trip is due to the principal saying that unless Goofy changes his parenting style, his son would wind up in the electric chair! WTF. You'll never see that in today's cartoons. Pretty fucked up.

A movie that I have a lot of bias over because I watched it so many times but It has a really endearing quality and it should be considered one of the great disney musicals. Has a great message and delivers it in a really fun ride. This movie has a huge scale and the animation is fluid and gorgeous. The Father and Son quality will make it timeless, they really fleshed out the Goofy character and made him have a lot more subtle emotions. A great movie for children or adults.
