Tom Hanks is amazing in this, the best role I seen from Geena Davis the same comment for Madonna & Rosie O'Donnell (the rest of the cast is outstanding too).
This is maybe the best baseball film I seen, at least the baseball film with more heart I seen that only gets better with every re-watch.

Story of the first professional female baseball league, created in the absence of the Majors during World War ll. The film focuses on two sisters who end up on opposite teams, causing an even greater sibling rivalry.
Geena Davis and Lori Petty are great as sisters Dottie and Kit, and are supported by fun roles from Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna. Tom Hanks is hilarious as the forever drunk head coach. We follow the girls through the inaugural year, with focus on the game and how the ladies will be perceived playing a "man's sport".
I do enjoy baseball, and movies about sports in general, but you don't have to be a fan to appreciate this. Great writing and great cast. And a nice nod to those ladies who took a chance, and got out there to do something they loved.

Pretty funny. Great cast. Most of the cast give pretty solid performances, especially Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. You get a really funny extended cameo from Jon Lovitz. Madonna, surprisingly, is ok. Not very good, but she's been a lot worse in the past. I thought some side plots were pointless. I understand every team member needs a plot point to give them something to do as well as flesh out their characters, but I just did'nt care for most of them. The characters, by the way, were very likable. Some were more annoying than others, but I liked most of them. Gets a little overly sentimental in the end, but I liked it for what it is as a whole and laughed a lot during it. Flawed but enjoyable.

i fell asleep. then i woke up and they were all old ladies and tom hanks was dead.

A really decent baseball picture, characters possessing depth and in the case of Geena Davis' Dotty unusual inscrutability.
An interesting film about women that feels confident and deft enough that it doesn't need to ram its message down your throat.

Outstanding film Tom Hanks was outstanding with other roles played very well

A feel good film all the way even if the beginning and ending take a little bit too long and don't resonate emotionally in the way it, quite obviously, strives for. Having said that, the 40's story is very well done, and all involved do a great job, albeit a little bit 'on the nose' here and there.

Loved Geena Davis, loved Tom Hanks and loved Madonna! A League of Their Own is a home run all the way baby!

9.0/10
This is one of the most charming, funniest and most beautiful dramedies I've ever seen, and also an amazing sports film. The historical context was perfectly nailed and the whole cast was fantastic. Tom Hanks shines in what is arguably his finest comedic role yet, and the rest was flawless, among them: Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell and Lori Petty. Exciting and poignant from beginning to end and at least for me, this will always be a little timeless classic from the 90's.

Q: Is this movie perfect?
A: No.Q: Does it almost entirely make up for those imperfections with heart, pluck, and a buttload of charm?
A: Absolutely. -

A near perfect film in heart, nostalgia, Americana, performances, humor, emotion and best of all, baseball!
There are a couple of serious bits that are terrific moments but just a little bit overplayed. I like the quick inclusion of the black woman who can throw better than anyone but not allowed in the league because of her skin color. The sentiment is fantastic and done without dialogue, but the over confident nod the lady gives Gena Davis is a bit overplayed and dumbs down the message a little bit. Same goes for the delivery of the telegram to notify a woman that her husband has died in the war. The way the script tries to amp it up with a totally disrespectful and clueless delivery boy is just a bit much.
Otherwise this movie is top notch in every respect.
