Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter says it all in the title; a title that will result in a chuckle, a roll of the eyes or quite possibly both. It is an attention grabbing name but it is also a joke and high concept conceit that wears thin quickly. This takes a ridiculous ‘what if’ premise and then proceeds to neither expand on the conceit or even revel in its campy daftness. Instead it is just plain stupid without being entertainingly silly.
If you couldn’t guess this is a revisionist story about the would be President’s early life as a vampire slayer. Whilst it provides a whistle stop tour through some of America’s history it naturally dispenses of anything remotely approaching fact.…

Much like the film itself, my appreciation of it was like a roller-coaster ride.
I approached this film with great trepidation as, while I think director Bekmambetov has a great visual style, he doesn't really know how to tell a story. This sadly is still the case, but he has improved.
About 15 minutes in I encountered one of my biggest pet peeves concerning vampire movies; them strutting around in broad daylight. I was ready to write off this film then and there were it not for the fact that I came to the realisation that this film actually creates its own mythology, in fact, that's the main theme of the film. If I am ready to accept that Lincoln…

Action
I said I would never watch this, but it was on HBO and my curiosity/wanting to see heads chopped off got the best of me. I had the lowest expectations for the "movie" so I wasn't disappointed. But the action was cool enough at 4 in the am, it's much like the fight scenes in the new Sherlock Holmes films. It's very stylistic and really that's all I watched this for, the plot is dumb and that doesn't even really need to be said. There are numerouse ridiculous moments that make no sense, so this gets 2 stars for some cool action but that's it and that's all I expected.

I died a little watching this. I knew it would suck too so I blame myself. Luckily though I know in about 5 minutes I'll forget the whole film.

After watching this film I feel safe to assume that when director Timur Bekmambetov saw Passion of the Christ he referred to it as being too light hearted and jokey. While the basic idea of the film is interesting, the execution is terrible. This movie was an extreme slog to get through simply because it is never ever fun. Also the fact that the film features pornagraphic use of bullet time doesn't help much either. Neither does the terrible CG, boring performances, and uninspired, borderline offensive story, for that matter.
In summation, this film was exactly what I expected it would be.

Fluff but had it's moments.

Much too serious for a movie about the sixteenth President hunting down vampires. I expected something lighter. I also expected better effects. None of my expectations were met.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Vorhersehbar aber unterhaltsam. Und ganz nett gedreht. Bisschen viel Zeitlupenaction.

Meh.

You'd expect this to be a goof, and you'd be wrong too, because it's glum enough to combine the most pedantic, simplified biopic conventions with the usual super-hero bombast in an exercise that almost goes out of its way to defuse the horror genre's usual talent for evoking historical complexities through disruptive allegory. Features some of the worst looking CGI ever to mar a studio production and a monotonous editing style that gives every scene the same wearying intensity. Anyone looking to bemoan the state of the art can use this movie as a whipping boy.

Bat shit crazy, strangely earnest with the most amazing title ever. Just say it Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Henry Sturges: Real power comes not from hate but from truth.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer is light on history and heavy on vampires but ultimately delivers an action movie that is a lot of fun.
We first see Lincoln as a young boy, being exposed to the two things that will drive him throughout his life: a slave trader whipping a young slave boy and a vampire who delivers tragedy. So when Lincoln hates slavery and vampires ... it's personal.
Years later, on the trail of vengeance, Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) encounters Henry Sturges (Dominic Cooper). A dedicated vampire assassin, Sturges recruits Lincoln to help rid the world of evil. In the process, Lincoln follows some of the timeline that all…
