Adventures in Babysitting Adventures in Babysitting
1987 Directed by Chris Columbus
Synopsis
She thought babysitting was easy money - until she started hanging out with the Andersons.
Chris has a big night out planned when her boyfriend cancels on her. She agrees to babysit for a pre-teen girl and a pubescent boy. She's settled in for a dull night when a girlfriend calls her to say she's marooned at a downtown bus station with very seedy characters around. The three plus one of the boy's friends get into the parents station wagon for a trip to the inner city.

One of the coolest soundtracks of 80s films, one of the best openings and bloody gorgeous flawless Elizabeth Shue. STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS. That little girl is mega badass too.
Did Nick and Norah ever admit that they basically homaged the whole 'stranded in a bus station' thing from this film?!

first film i ever got caught masturbating to. the shue dance sequence at the beginning is seriously too much to handle. even today. im sure you understand.
though after getting banned from the local multiplex for my actions during a screening of Percy Jackson, im starting to wonder if chris columbus just has my number and can feel my inner desires
always dreamt of a porn empire taking off with a first feature homage titled adventure sin babysitting

This has got to be one of my favourite films of all time. There are a couple of reasons for this:
* It is simply brilliant
* There is a massive chance that growing up this was the only film ever on so it was like it or lump itIt is unfortunate that on this site you can only list one day that you watched a film. If you could list more than one date I would be selecting the section that says 'most of the 90's and a fair bit of the naughties'.
If you have never seen this film then watch it. Now. And if you havent watched it then you must have a void that can only be filled by a mechanic pretending to be Thor.
Dont fuck with the babysitter

Surprisingly zesty teen caper which holds up well. The humour still works for the most part and it has a bit of an edge that would seem highly unlikely to appear in a modern equivalent (including a throwaway rape gag in the first ten minutes).
Elisabeth Shue makes for a fun lead, the throwback soundtrack (which was a throwback even in 1987) is great and the cast of supporting actors (Vincent D'Onofrio, Bradley Whitford, Penelope Ann Miller, Anthony Rapp) are all great value. There's fun to be had in constantly referencing The Mighty Thor and the sense of these being teenagers stranded in an adult situation works really well.
Not all the scenes work but there's enough of a freewheelin' vibe and sense of peril that it zips along nicely.
Chris Columbus hasn't been better as a writer-director. Features a transcendent use of the F-bomb. Twice.

Always liked Elizabeth Shue and she delivers here, leading the kids in her care into the heart of the city at night. Oooh, scary. Hey was that Thor?

On paper, Adventures in Babysitting should be a pretty weak film. The stars are mostly child actors, inexperienced by definition. Its setup, babysitting, is one of the most mundane activities there is. And turning that into an adventure is patently absurd. But Adventures in Babysitting takes that absurdity and runs with it, providing funny scene after funny scene, an entertaining narrative, and any weakness in the acting of the child stars is more than made up for by Shue and the various character actors throughout the film. Chris Columbus couldn’t have asked for a better directorial debut. Read full review.

I wish I had seen this as a kid. Really enjoyable adventure movie, great soundtrack and everything is tied together nicely.

'Don't F*ck With The Babysitter!'
Shue just owns in this movie, but all the cast is good here. Miller is great in her bus station scenes, and D'Onofrio as 'Thor' is fantastic. I love all the crazy places this films takes. even finds time for a blues number! The music is great too!
