As a hardcore fan of the Alien series, I always find myself unfulfilled after watching all four installments and even after adding Prometheus to the list, I still want more. A couple of years ago, after finishing another viewing of Alien Resurrection I went on a hunt to see if there was anything else similar to the Alien films. Turns out there’s a whole bunch of Alien rip-offs, ranging from the early 80′s till the present. The one that stands out the most is ‘Alien 2: Sulla Terra’, or in the US, ‘Alien: On Earth’.
‘Alien 2: Sulla Terra’ is marketed as the next chapter to Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece, ‘Alien’. With James Cameron’s official sequel ‘Aliens’ being not even…

The much anticipated sequel to Alien? Ha! It's like some Italians saw Alien, but didn't understand it. The final product is more like The Descent (due to the spelunking), but with exploding humans. Also, there's a girl who's telepathic, the aliens take over humans like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the aliens can control machinery like Maximum Overdrive and the face-huggers look like bloody hoses. It's a really slow movie. It's barely 90 minutes long, but feels like 4 hours.

It's really hard to give this piece of low budget schlock a proper review, it actually fails quite hard to gel into a good experience with about half of the movie consisting of padding and useless plot. But when the fun kicks in as the cave exploreres ventures into a cave system only to be set upon by a gloopy alien, it's all love and cheese as we love and want it from the Italians.

It has its moments, including the longest tracking shot ever and a particularly large can of pineapple juice, but it's terminally boring.

A boring group of people go on a boring cave trip and type on typewriter by candle light. Then there is some cool gore before boring stuff gets boring again. Michele Soavi is a highlight only because he's my favorite, not because he does anything especially interesting.

Insane Italian pseudo-Alien ripoff. The first 45 minutes are, aside from one shock, pretty dull. The remaining 40 minutes, holy crap, it is weird. Basically, a group of spelunkers finds a weird blue crystal that contains an alien, who proceeds to dispatch almost everyone. One of the spelunkers is apparently a telepath, and Michele Soavi gets his face melted. The final 10 minutes are completely ridiculous, and it ends with a "You may be next" message. Despite 20th Century Fox's lawsuit, this is more a ripoff of the Quatermass films as opposed to Alien. It's pretty obscure, but if you can find it, and you like bad movies, you might have a bit of fun with it.
