From the guy who would go on to direct such "classics" like 2002's Die Another Day and 2005's xXx: State of the Union comes this generic thriller based on the novel of the same name by James Patterson. Morgan Freeman reprises his role as Alex Cross, a detective with a special set of skils a la Sherlock Holmes. This time, after a freak accident that kills his partner, Cross is forced to investigate a case with U.S. Secret Service Special Agent Jezzie Flanagan (Monica Potter) where the senator's daughter is kidnapped from a private school by computer sceince teacher Gary Soneji (Michael Wincott). I often find it hilarious that a movie is so bad that it doesn't hide it. Along…

Along Came a Spider is the first novel in James Patterson's best selling detective novel series about Washington D.C. doctor-detective Alex Cross. The film, made in 2001, starring Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross is the second film made about the very detective – the second novel, Kiss the Girls, was adapted in 1997.
The film begins with Alex Cross losing his partner during an unsuccessful stake-out. Since then, Alex has stopped working, blaming himself for what happened. Once a senator's daughter is kidnapped from a prestigious D.C. Private school in the light of day from under the noses of several secret service agents, Cross is called back to work- by the kidnapper himself. Into the mix is added Jezzie Flanagan,…

When I heard that there was going to be a prequel to Kiss the Girls I decided that I would rent the original so that I would know what to expect. I also did not want to miss anything from the original that might have a reference in the new one. So I watched Kiss the Girls, which I found had Ashley Judd, and wished that I had caught it when it was in theaters. I enjoyed it and began waiting for the prequel.
Along Came a Spider follows Detective Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) who is contacted by a kidnapper after he has kidnapped a Senator’s daughter. Alex Cross was known for his books on profiling, his police prowess, and…

As thoroughly middling as thrillers get. Every beat is methodical from the first to the las,t although it is not without a few captivating sequences and Michael Wincott is excellent as the perpertrator.

why did i watch this again? right - wincott!

A bland thriller featuring Morgan Freeman as police profiler Alex Cross, hunting a maniac (Michael Wincott), who has kidnapped a senator's daughter. While director Lee Tamahori does a much better job with this material than Rob Cohen did with ALEX CROSS, the unexceptional nature of the script fails it. The booming, thrilling score by Jerry Goldsmith feels like it belongs to a different movie.
