It's said that Guillermo Del Toro is a fan of ALUCARDA, and that's really no surprise after you watch it -- this blood soaked, emotion filled movie is a masterpiece of low-budget horror. The plot is simple: two oprhan girls at a Mexican convent are seduced by the Devil, and proceed to raise Hell, literally.
It's a familiar plot, but co-writer/director Juan López Moctezuma weaves a tale that feels like a cross between HEAVENLY CREATURES and THE EXORCIST. And he does so with considerable style and energy. An amazing film.

So, you want something diferent. Wouldnt you prefer something more normal? Like Alucard son of dracula, or just dracula. Well, this is vampires with crazy twist. Even satan has a paper in this, a doctor and some priests, theres nudity, but sadly no sex.
But still, thanks for no sex, or this would certainly become weirder. Ow yeah, the metaphor is in there. Not well hidden but there in the moment that they..... oh, i was going to spoil it for you.
Now, i can only say, the darkness lingers, formless and boundless, its children are everywhere, and maybe you should look out for them.
We adore Love, not death like you and your false god! -

After her parents die tragically Justine is sent to a convent in the Mexican countryside. Here she meets Alucarda, a girl her own age who immediately bonds with Justine and the two make a pact together. But dark forces seem to surround Alucarda, and soon another pact is made and both become possessed through Satan. Can a priest, a doctor, and the nuns stop Alucarda and free Justine before it's too late?
Anti-clerical, bloody, blasphemous, and altogether bat shit insane, Alucarda is a visually challenging piece of cinema where grandiose set design, including a church where life-size Crucifixes with Jesus nailed to them seem to be organically growing out of the walls, reigns supreme. Featuring a love story between two…

This Mexican art house take on the Nunsploitation film weaves in some interesting threads through all the devil worship and forbidden love. I like the way the devil, witch, and vampire tropes are mixed together in a way that evokes but is not bound to slavishly to it. With a religious order as scary as the devil they despise, it is not so simply black vs white. The sets and costuming are very unique and eye catching. Claudio Brooks is memorable in a double role. David Silva is also captivating as the no-bullshit witch finder. May be of interest to Jodorowsky fans. Juan Lopez Moctezuma
was associated with the South American "Panic" Movement which had connections to a young Jodorowsky. Alucarda may not be as deep or abstract as El Topo but it does share a certain surreal sensibilty. Warning! Some of the histrionics may grate on you if you are tired or hungover. -

Dentro de su rareza hay una zona más de extravagancia. Cine contra-revolucionario, politcamente incorrecto no, impoliticamente incorrecto.

This movie has everything you want. If you're into nuns dressed up like mummies, lots of naked screaming & unshaven female nether regions.

There is screaming, and then some more screaming and then more screaming. And then it ends.
