-Part of my on-going Spielberg marathon-
I'm just gonna go easy on this film because everybody who's a fan of Spielberg all these years knew that 'Always' was not really one of those highlight throughout his filmography. Romantic drama? It's an odd choice, really, and one can't help but wonder if Spielberg doesn't just took the project because he gets to play around with planes again, even if its been two years since 'Empire of the Sun' came out.
I had no idea what kinda storyline I'm expecting going in but once he died and came back as a ghost, I know where it's going and it's the kind of storyline that just doesn't work with me and probably will…

The flying scenes are truly thrilling, and the special effects hold up surprisingly well. What doesn't hold up? The dull love story that allows Spielberg to indulge in his worst tendencies. It's so ham-fisted and sentimental that it's hard to watch despite some pretty solid performances from the three leads.

Really underrated little Spielberg flick. Loved The Platters song that played throughout as well.

It's not a bad movie, but it fails to ever really soar. Everything is handled fairly well, even the romance aspects, which are somewhat atypical for Spielberg, but in the end, 'Always' pales in comparison to much of the rest of his filmography.

Always is a cute little film, but doesn’t amount to a whole lot in the end. There are no major problems, the premise is pretty interesting, and the ending is pretty satisfying. It’s probably the most average of Spielberg’s films (that is, average among all movies, not compared to all of his.) There are only a couple of actions scenes, one at the beginning and one at the end involving airplanes and fires, but they’re quite well done. The middle drags on a bit, but there are some touching scenes between Dreyfuss and Hunter along the way.

Almost done with Spielberg's filmography and man was this disappointing, probably his worst movie, pretty boring sappy romance.
