Anastasia is considered by many to be one of Don Bluth's greatest successes, and I certainly find it enjoyable. It can't really measure up to most of the stuff Disney was doing in the 90s, but it's a fun watch and looks really good.
The historical framing is kind of neat, but ultimately doesn't do it many favors because it's hard for me to totally get over how they frame the period. Life with the Czar in power is portrayed as sunshine and roses, and the rebellion simply the result of Rasputin being an evil vindictive bad guy. I know this is just an animated film and some liberties have to be taken to simplify things, but wow.

I never watched that movie for a long long time it's not Disney but it's the best animated musical ever and my favourite song is In The Dark Of The Night, I didn't know Christopher Lloyd, Hank Azaria, Kirsten Dunst and Kelsey Grammer was in that movie which is both an urban legend and a original 1956 film that loosey based on a true story it inspired all romantic cultures.

More than likely to be my favourite non-Disney animation. Beautiful!

The first film released by rival Disney studio Fox Animation Studios, headed by former Disney animator Don Bluth, Anastasia, despite the suspected anti-Disney motives behind its release, is one of my favourite animated films. Now the film is neither ground-breaking or innovative in its animation style, music, or story, nor is it a masterpiece, but there is something about this low-budget late-90s release that is unavoidably loveable. I am definitely most drawn to its fiery heroine and plausible love story, which is reminiscent of a romantic comedy, for which leading lady Meg Ryan is famous. Anastasia, though not on par with The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast, does emerge victorious over some of Disney's less enthusiastic efforts, such as Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

What can I say, I love this movie, I'm a sucker for a good animated movie, but this one has a bit of history thrown into the mix and the old "c'mon get together already!" love story, a bit of old dark magic that you can almost believe.
the old, "it'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry" lark... a great movie

One of the last great 2D cartoons. Great cast and the songs are really catchy.
