Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm nuts. But I'd rather watch this low budget, Asylum produced, cheeseball "knockoff" than any 100 million dollar, PG-13 remake it was knocked off of.
I like that it's pretending to be exactly what it isn't. That's better than purporting to be something you're pretending to be poorly.
I'd rather a million low budget knock-off cash-ins existed than any one gleaming example of expensive Hollywood revisionism.
Take your suits and test screenings and trademarks and leave shit alone. Just let the hacks and up-and-comers cut their teeth churning out new-release-wall bait like they used to, and stick to the business of making the things people will be remaking 30 years from now.
I thought this movie was surprisingly enjoyable and actually sort of funny. The action is whatever and they don't let Michael Jai White off the leash entirely enough, but this functions perfectly fine for what it is.
But hey, maybe it's just me.
