I'm sure this was hilarious when it was released in 1978, but now the humor is very dated. Sure there's still some laughs to be had, but I found it mostly annoying and almost all the characters were douchebags. It does deserve credit for influencing a lot of modern comedies though, and I'm sure if I'd seen it closer to its release I'd of enjoyed it more.

Before there was American Pie or even Porky's, there was Animal House. The DNA of every modern teenage comedy is rooted in the first (and by far the best) National Lampoon movie series, a film that despite being very much of its time almost feels a bit universal in the humour it espouses; beyond the sex, booze and anarchy that fill John Landis' movie lies a coming-of-age tale, set at the beginning of the 60's just before the world became that of the young, and while it may from a technical perspective be a little improvised and uneven, it's got buckets of heart without the sentimentality. Crucially, however, it's absolutely hilarious in many places.

"TOGA TOGA TOGA TOGA". I can't believe it's taken me this long to see this film. I laughed and I laughed hard. John Belushi is a comedic genius and steals the show here but the rest of the cast do a good job too. I can't believe that a teenaged Kevin Bacon is in it. I can't really do justice to this film, you just have to see it for yourself. Last thing i'll say is "It's not an orgy, it's a toga party".

This raunchy comedy proved teens do not need to fuck food to be funny. They do however need to be consistently intoxicated and flash a boob... or two.
It's slapstick, it's stupid, but my god is it hilarious.

"My advice to you is to start drinking heavily"
Classic scene follows classic scene follows classic scene. One of those films that you watch over and over as a kid until it's assimilated into your character and you find strength and courage from its futile and stupid spirit often turning the worst of times into the best.

It's so hard to capture chaos on the screen without making it look forced or too controlled. Here's the film that nailed it.

Humor is fairly dated but it's still highly enjoyable.

Easily one of the greatest comedies of all time. John Belushi's death was a terrible blow to the genre. Future directors will have a very hard time matching John Landis' legacy.

Oh boy is this great! It is definitely one of the best party movies ever. I had so much fun watching it.

Great fun and, without it, we probably wouldn't have American Pie. For that at least, it should be applauded.

Belushi carries this with his expressive face and his surprising quickness. I suspect turning the sound off and just watching Belushi would be fantastic, similar to the joy that comes from watching the brilliant physical comedy of Buster Keaton. All that said, the film is merely passable as a comedy, its inventiveness counteracted by anarchic sensibilities that make it a forerunner to the poor knock-offs we see today.

Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

A bit dated now (specially in some of the sensibilities) - but there is enough gold in here to make it worth a watch

John Belushi is amazing, but most of the rest of the cast fails to hold up to that standard. Generally a very funny movie, though.
