The first half of the film lacked conviction. It was a superb plot but was not used properly; Colonel Cutter (Christopher Walken) was the most well structured character in the film. The Queen Ant did not appear enough which was a major downfall considering she was the leader of the ant colony and had only featured in 10 minutes all together. Was okay but could have been better. 'Insectopia' should have been bigger in perimeter; and more stimulating for an ant, with all the hype it was given and just for a simple rubbish bin with 5 or 6 ants was poorly constructed. 'Insectopia' suggests there would have been hundreds of ants filled with different insects.

Not as good as I previously thought, this feels a little disjointed in parts, however it's still funny and pretty much everyone is likable, though Gene Hackman's General character is just so 2 dimensional it's hard to get behind the heroes. Though Woody Allen is still great. And Sylvester Stallone. And everyone, really. Plus it's really frickin' dark in places. The ant being incinerated to death, man, that's deep.
Still a fantastic family film that all kids should see - with some pretty sophisticated political commentaries that start off with potential, but eventually are just forgotten. Still great however. Hell, Rambo Ant, man. Rambo Ant. Or Rocky Ant. Take your pick.

I watched this movie when it first came out back to back with "A Bug's Life" which came out the same year. I vaguely remember enjoying this movie more. I don't think that's the popular consensus, however, and I was 9 at the time.
I did, however, find out I have a fetish for animated female ants because of this movie and for that I give it 3 stars.

One of the best Woody Allen films.

The other half of Pixar's 1998 effort A Bug's Life, but it's not nearly as strong. The famous ensemble voice work led by Woody Allen makes it humorous enough.

Who knew Woody Allen playing an ant would be such perfect casting?
Anyway, this is one of the first films I remember seeing as a child and I've loved it ever since.

I remember many years ago wanting to see Antz on the big screen but not being able to. 15 years later I was able to fulfill that childhood fantasy/apparently great advertising campaign. My first thought: animation has come a long way in the last 15 years. Immediate second thought: Woody Allen is a terrible male-lead and voice actor. Personally his voice immediately raises my blood-pressure and stress level. I appreciated the themes of this movie, it is definitely more adult-oriented than A Bug's Life which came out the same year but not nearly as good.

Terrible animation, wonderful socialist message!

If I wasn't an avowed Woody Allen hater I might have had a reaction slightly more positive than "blah". 6 C.

FUCK ANTZ

My sister and I loved rewinding the "Aloha DUDE" part. Idk why. 8-year-olds are easily amused.

slightly worse than a bug's life

Woody Allen and Sylvester Stallone dress in ant costumes and have conversations in a bar...

Very underrated movie, that actually has something to say.
