This is thinly based on the film of the same name from DIRECTOR John Carpenter back 1976 but holds none of the shocks and gritty realism the original had.
Saying that, this is still an enjoyable popcorn action film which has a small town police precinct hold off a band of assailants who launch an attack on the precinct. Trapped inside as a wild snowstorm rages outside are a band of police officers, prison guards and prisoners themselves who must work together to avoid a seemingly random attack on their lives.
Filled with a mix of blistering action sequences and real tense moments mixed with good performances from Ethan Hawke, Lawrence Fishburne, John Leguizamo and Maria Bello, this is slightly different to the usual thrillers out there and worth a look.

If people die in a snowstorm and nobody is there to see it, does anybody care?
This was another one of those films that seemed to come out of nowhere early in 2005. The film had little to no publicity and I didn’t even pick up on it on my movie sites until the last moment. I did know that it was a remake of an older film, although only loosely. I could tell that although from what I had seen, the film did not look that great, with the actors involved there was a shot. It stars Laurence Fishburne (a great actor in the 90’s), Ethan Hawke(who although overrated, is fairly good), Maria Bello(who I love with her performances…

I wasn't much a fan of the original film, and maybe this one being a tad more serious in tone helped, but I really enjoyed this remake.
It has a GREAT cast. It is also very violent and they really give you a sense of dread with our group being surrounded in this tiny police station. I thought Hawke and Bello were fantastic in this, but de Matteo was also a standout. And Dennehy plays a terrific a-hole in this. You really do want to see him meet his end from the first scene he's in.
I also thought, like the original, a few deaths were a bit shocking. You can usually tell from the first frame who will live…

Ordentliches Remake des Carpenter Klassikers. Belagerungsfilm sind eh klasse. Und Filme die im Schnee spielen mag ich auch. Nette Action mit Härte. Unterhaltsam.

I have not seen the OG one yet :(

I haven't seen the original so I can't judge the film as a remake but I will say that I enjoyed it for the most part and thought the characters were pretty interesting.

Overall, a passable action/thriller/crime/drama-type affair, and an ok way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday evening, if you've nothing else more interesting to watch. Plenty of action, and some hints of developing relationships between the characters, but nothing really interesting, and nothing to elevate it much above a lot of other films in the same genre.
I have to admit that the veritable army of corrupt cops beseiging Precinct 13, the lengths they were prepared to go to, and their confidence that they would get away with it, all began to strain my credulity.
I certainly didn't hate it, but doubt I'd bother to watch it again.
I've not seen the original John Carpenter version, so have no idea how this stacks up against it.

Not sure if it is the fact that the original was so good or that this had such big names but this just didnt work for me. There was a lack of real tension and action which disappointed me.
